We could adopt, say, Malaysia's drug policy: get caught with more than at weight of a 25 cen piece (roughly the size of a quarter) your executed..no racial bias or preferred treatment..any questions?

SSG Steven Mangus - treatment is less expensive than incarceration. It's a simple budget move.

SSG Steven Mangus - we're already paying for it. This would actually cut costs, at least based on the experience that Portugal had when they decriminalized drugs in 2001.

Ditto; Don't use drugs. But, it is a fallacy that the prisons are full of non-white male drug users. It takes a lot of work to be put in prison. The vast majority of prisoners convicted with less that serious crimes were plea bargained down from more serious crimes. Most are sellers, not just users. Others convicted with "simple" drug use were also convicted of other more serious crimes. The drug use charge was pile-on. When some identifies a prisoner as a victimized drug user, ask what crimes they were charged with. If someone sold your kids arsenic, wouldn't you want that person behind bars? That's what drug dealers do, sale poison.
