Britain's Prince Harry flew up to the Arctic on Valentine's Day to meet the Royal Marines and learn about special freezing-weather helicopter commando exercises.
Harry, who is Captain General of the Royal Marines, visited northern Norway where he reviewed the Commando Helicopter Force which operates in temperatures as low as minus 30 Celsius, or -22 degrees Farenhiet.

Being a "Colonial Rebel", I have few thoughts about royals one way or the other...but I have to hand it to him; he's done pretty "bloody marvelous" at earning credibility and living up to his name-sake. Pretty sure he'd have been wearing armor and leading a charge at Agincourt. Sure wish we had a few more Congressmen, Senators, and above more like him.

Interesting looking at the pictures in the article. Prince Harry is titled Captain General of the Royal Marines which is a 4-star equivalent rank, but in the photos he's actually wearing the rank insignia for a Colonel. I realize it's probably a positional thing, but it would be like seeing a picutre calling someone here in the U.S. Commandant of the Marine Corps, or Chief of Staff of the Army while the ywere wearing eagles on their shoulders. Just doesn't quite match up.

If my information is correct, his last held official ranks were that of O-4 in all UK forces (LCDR, Major, Squadron Leader). Perhaps he's been promoted to O-5 since (don't they call O-6's "Brigadeers"?), or there's some other connected honorific (like having to be of equal or higher rank of the operational commander being reviewed?). I'm pretty sure his grandfather wore his actual naval rank (O-3) for quite some time after marrying Princess, then later Queen Elizabeth. I believe Tsar Nicholas II wore colonel's rank, and was briefly referred to as "Colonel Romanov" after his abdication despite being the "official" head of the Imperial Russian forces. Whatever the case, if half of the stories about this guy are true (like standing with some Ghurkas against insurgents ), I don't think anyone minds too much what rank he chooses to wear.

'Captain General' is the ceremonial head of the Royal Marines.
Formerly, it was the 'Colonel in Chief'.
And to make it more confusing, per wiki, the rank worn on the dress uniform is Field Marshal, ie, five star general for the Brits.

Apparently Prince Harry has been Captain General since 2017. A far cry from when I saw him wear "2 diamonds" of LT rank at BAF.

He is actually Colonel of the Regiment, which every royal has at least one honorary title. The Queen, the Prince of Wales, and he are just examples of the titular head of the regiment.
