I can't stand politicians. To quote one of them, "…Blumenthal said. The American people need to know why we have 6,000 U.S. troops in Africa." With all due respect, they do not need to know the details. During the second half of the 20th century, we had troops deployed worldwide to prevent the spread of a dangerous ideology. Today, it's a different ideology, but even more dangerous and our armed forces are the only thing that can prevent its infestation. Good men and women will die protecting and preserving our way of life, but we, few, know that when we sign on the dotted line and raise our hands to swear our oath. Just worry about properly funding our military and holding our foreign partners accountable to join the fight.

Mr. McCain is about 4-6 years late in identifying sequestration as the issue. But it is not the issue. I say this all the time on RP. DoD needs to be audited. Where does the money go? I witnessed too many times throughout my career just working in Division and below units massive waste of resources. How much did we leave in Iraq which later ISIS took from an ill training Iraqi Army? Hundreds of millions wasted there. Once all the SUVs that the Army rents are all turned in I'll start to believe that the military might have a funding issue. To be accurate it has an accountability issue.

I spent time in Niger training their FAN on COPs and FARPs replacements. The issue isn't funding the US Soldier but rather the lack of accountability from the embassy and the Department of State on the US equipment provided to the Nigeriens.
