VA published a website to inform veterans of potential toxic exposures at Ft. McClellan. Ensuring that veterans who suffer from deteriorating health conditions consistent with exposure to Polychlorinated Biphenyl (PCB) are able to obtain the care and benefits they need has been a top priority for Veterans Service Organizations. This announcement is a step toward recognizing that these veterans may have long-lasting health effects that are a direct result of their service at Fort McClellan. To read more, visit:

There is MUCH more to this story. Numerous Facebook groups are dedicated to this subject and those who were exposed.

Like many others it is a closed group. Just ask to join and the Admin will respond.

The VA website reports possible exposure to the following:
Radioactive compounds (cesium-137 and cobalt-60)
Chemical warfare agents (mustard gas and nerve agents)
Airborne polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) from the Monsanto plant in the neighboring town.
HOWEVER this is just a small listing of the toxic soup present on the post. CBS 60 Minutes once called McClellan the most toxic place on earth.
If you EVER spent ANY time at Fort McClellan Alabama you owe it to yourself to do further research. You may NOT be the only one affected in your family. Many of these toxins cause changes to DNA which is passed along to your children. Veterans have been working hard for years to bring this to light.
If you're a FORT MAC VET it's time to educate yourself because although they took a step in the right direction, the VA is very slow to the subject.

Anything in particular that we should be worried about? I was stationed there in the 80s at the chemical school for AIT.

You may want to read the articles and if you are having any health issues they may be contributed to the toxic chemicals that were used there. I believe you can start with the VA and check out what they may have put on their site at va.gov

I'm in the system but I had no idea these issues existed, I will be talking to my health care provider. I tried looking to the "facebook" groups after reading the VA page but couldn't get logged in for some reason. Thank you for the intel.
