1. There is no limit to the number of agricultural work visa's, so the ONLY reasons for hiring illegals is that they have no legacy cost and they work for less money. 2. There are labor contractors that can provide legal workers, they just cost more.
I've heard this same garbage for over 30 years in the construction and local tobacco industry. If these guys didn't see it coming, it's on them. There are certainly legal routes and the legal workers actually pay taxes.

CPT Lawrence Cable My thoughts align with yours. I am reminded of Ceasar Chavez and the things that happened in California in the 80s. It's all about the lower pay and poor working conditions that illegals are forced to take. I have no sympathy for the land owners. When I was a teen in NC, these were the summer jobs many of us engaged in, usually for less than minimum wage. We were glad to have the summer jobs.

SGT (Join to see) - I worked on other peoples farms as well as the family farm, I never worked for minimum wage or less. But one of the issues today is a teenager could not work a lot of the farm jobs I did back then without the Farmer getting thrown in jail for violating child labor laws.

To be eligible for the H-2A visa, a migrant farm worker must:
Find a US job offering temporary/ seasonal agricultural work
Proof the applicant plans to return home after the completion of the specified work
The applicant is from an approved county
To qualify, the petitioner (intended employer) must:
Offer a job that is temporary or seasonal
Demonstrate that there are not enough US workers who are able, willing, qualified, to do the work
Show that employing H-2A workers will not affect the wages of other US workers
Generally need to submit a single valid temporary labor certification from the US Department of Labor with the H-2A petition.

People using H2A workers are required to be bonded. They have to guarantee at least 75% of the contract hours, provide a safe work and living environment.
