Camp Zama is a binational post (US Army and Japan Ground Self-Defense Force) located in the cities of Zama and Sagamihara, in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, about 40km (25 miles) southwest of Tokyo.

Camp Zama is home to US Army Japan (USARJ) and US Army Garrison Japan. Camp Zama (CZ) acts as the HQ installation for the US Army in Japan, with numerous throughout the country. Satellite installations in the Kanto region include: Sagamihara Housing Area (SHA), Sagami General Depot (SGD), Yokohama North Dock (YND), and Hardy Barracks (HB). Major subordinate units and tenant units in the Kanto region include: I Corps (Forward), 38th ADA Brigade, 35th CSSB, 78th Signal Battalion, 311th MI Battalion, US Army Aviation Battalion Japan (USAABJ), 836th Transportation Battalion, US Army Japan Band, MEDDAC-Japan, and USACE Japan Engineer District.

Advice for those moving here

If you live off base, look for housing/apartments within 5km of your base. Traffic is extremely congested and the roads are small. A 5km commute can take as much as 30 mins during rush hour.
Get a PASMO or Suica card. (Used to pay for all public transport)
