You're actually required to use your GTC since it is a PCS expense. It doesn't have to be the on post hotel but DFAS will only refund you the government rate for your hotel. Make sure you ask for the government rate and go stay at a nice Hilton or Marriott. You are entitled to 10 days of TLE to cover your lodging CONUS PCS.

SFC Boyd, would the TLE expenses be contingent on his orders authorizing his wife? As a PFC, he would sign into the replacement detachment and get assigned a barracks room so he wouldn’t need a house. If he got married enroute she wouldn’t be on his orders and therefore he wouldn’t be authorized the hotel and the Army wouldn’t reimburse him. At least that’s my understanding, it’s been a long time since I was a PFC…

MAJ (Join to see) he didn't say he was married enroute so I just assumed he was accompanied. If he was married enroute then you are correct, but he would still be authorized to use his GTC just wouldn't get reimbursed for it.

I'm just surprised the out house isn't going to be ready until august 3rd. I am even more surprised people still have out houses.

Simple answer is yes. You just have to make sure to turn in the receipt of your hotel when you in-process. 1SG (Join to see) & SGT Christopher Hayden have right idea.
