Is it possible to do the air assault school 12 mile ruck in apower walk? It's 15 min per mile this is around 4 mph. My other idea was running one telephone pole lengeth and quick walk another and repeat. Does anyone have any tips? Thanks in advance!

Well officially your not supposed to run but.....beyond telling you not to run, there is no enforcement.

When I went through a long time ago in 1986 and for that matter for EIB and other Infantry 12 milers, they really do not care if you march, fast walk, run, or jog. They only care about the finish time, the rucksack weight/contents and that you stay on the route. You can even stop and rest along the 12 mile march and change socks. I doubt any of that has changed since I went through in 1986 but I am open for correction if it has. I believe the finish time they are looking for is 3 hours (which is also the EIB standard). Your allowed to wear a wrist watch as well so you pretty much know via pacing if you need to run or not. Make sure your ruck sack fits tight against your body and is packed solidly so it does not swing on your back when you jog or run. Also, my recommedation is that if you do stop, only 5 min or less, more than that and your legs are going to start to get sore and stiff from fatigue.......best to keep moving in some shape or form. Also, I would recommend a light jog, I tried fast walking myself it will increase your blister rate vs a light bouncy jog because your legs and feet are more stiff with a walk.

When I went through at Campbell, admittedly some years ago, the Cadre unofficially advised up to jog all the downhill sections and fast walk the rest. It was my strategy and I finished in the first 25 percent of the class.

I did a run walk run walk pace and was able to be the fourth person to finish mine. You just got to pace yourself and know what you can or cannot do. But you got this. Air Assault!!

Find what works best you. It’s good that you are thinking about this ahead of time so you won’t have to devise a strategy on the fly. Anything from a fast walk to a slow job and in between works. My experience (from a very long time ago) was that the cadre didn’t really care how you did it. As long as you made the time.

Good luck.
