We believe that veterans are leaders, team builders, and problem solvers who have the unique potential to strengthen communities across the country. As a coalition, Got Your 6 works to integrate these perspectives into popular culture, engage veterans and civilians together to foster understanding, and empower veterans to lead in their communities. Got Your 6 and our partners are shifting public perceptions so that veterans’ leadership and skills are recognized and utilized at home to strengthen communities. Through our programs we are shifting the narrative of veterans as “broken heroes” to one focusing on veterans as leaders and civic assets. 

A study commissioned by Got Your 6 revealed that the general population views veterans as “broken heroes.” However, our latest Veterans Civic Health Index confirmed that veterans volunteer, engage with local governments and community organizations, vote, and help neighbors, all at rates higher than their non-veteran counterparts. Got Your 6 works with entertainment industry and government partners to normalize the depictions of veterans in popular culture and in policymaking to dispel common myths about the veteran population.
