How are you preparing your Soldiers for blended retirement? This was sent out last night by SMA Dailey. Even if blended retirement doesn't affect you, leaders need to be informed to help educate their Soldiers to make the appropriate decision.
Starting 1 January 2018, Active Duty Service members with fewer than 12 years of service as of 31 December 2017, and those Reserve Component Service members with less than 4,320 points will have until 31 December 2018 to decide to remain in the current system or opt into the Blended Retirement System.
The mandatory training is available via the Joint Knowledge On-line http://jko.jten.mil/courses/BRS/.html and ArmyOneSource http://www.militaryonesource.mil/ websites to assist eligible Soldiers with the decision to either opt-in or continue with a legacy retirement system. It is mandatory for all Soldiers to complete this training no later than 31 December 2017. The training includes videos, glossaries and example scenarios that explain the new retirement benefits and provide comparisons of the current and new systems.
Ultimately, Army leadership desires that all Soldiers receive the right compensation and benefits – whether wearing the uniform during military service, in retirement or following any period of honorable service. Make the time to complete the required training and decide which retirement plan works best for you and your Family. Soldier for Life!

LTC Coleman- as the G1, do you know when the installation receives the Soldier if they receive any training on finance, investments, or transitions?? Reason I bring that up is DOD focus is on the output or when a Soldier is in the transition out phase. Why not have a transition in phase with the same level of community, business, private sector support.

All Solders receive initial finance training in BCT (1 hour) and (8 hours) in OSUT and AIT of financial training that include Blended Retirement system (BRS)information. Total of 9 hours of personal finance training.
During TAP, they receive more guidance on developing their budget for their transition and are required to present their budget as part of their capstone to their counselor.
