It can be funny unless Mother Nature does it. A tornado squatted on our barracks at Great Lakes and inverted everything and mixed it with all the glass shards from what used to be windows. We were nuts to butts huddled in the shower using our towels to shield from the glass being whipped in there. It was my only experience with a tornado but I'll never forget the orange-green sky and the smell either.

My platoon got hit by a couple of tornados in Quantico. But, they were wearing Smoky's and had bad breath. I, too, was scared of them ...and will remember them well.

One guy didn't have a hospital corner at his 45 degree angle, told him to fix it before first formation and he said okay. Come back after PT. The resemblance is uncanny

I know what happened 37 years ago at Ft Jackson, SC...open squad bay with 50 female recruits. (B-8-2-1) 1983.
Drills didn’t ‘allow’ us to wear ‘civics’ until after completion of first week of Basic.
‘trashing’ the barracks was a regular.
Tearing the big black pay phone off the wall, only happened once. Only had one female drill, & I ‘discovered’, after Basic, she was an ‘acting Jack’!
Do you remember c-rats, grenade qualification, EOC, spit-shined black boots, BDU’S, fire patrol, M-203, LAW, M16A1...
