This is "business as usual" for the Iranians. I was on the USS NEW ORLEANS (LPD-18) in 2012, when our transit made the news. We could see their "crew-served" weapons on deck, and it didn't stop us from completing our transit. Our bridge watch standers were on BTB with the IR authorities during the entire transit. More like, they kept telling us we were in Iranian waters, and we disagreed.
They kept harassing, and we kept pushing forward. After a couple of hours, they went home, and we continued our deployment. They've increased their harassments over the years, but they have doing this for a long time, including my first deployment back in 1994.
The key for the Navy here, is to always be vigilant and ready for the "worse case scenario". The U.S. needs to realize that we are really in their back yard when we enter the gulf. We'd probably be a little more intense and crazy if the Chinese and Russians were operating off the coast of California or Hawaii on a daily basis.

Oh wait, they already do. We just don't always know where their subs are. :)

With that said, I've been retired since 2016. My last command was NIOC Hawaii. Yes, I was a Cryptologist, so I knew a little more about the threat, than the average crew member.
