Now that the ASK-EM marketplace has cycled a few times, what is your experience with it? Do you think that the concept is good? What do you like about it and what would you do to improve it?

I like the principle behind it, but until someone's YMAV opens up for them, they won't really have an informed opinion.
It's relatively new (from an Army programs perspective) so a lot of people are still going with "I heard from a guy" information.

I was in the first cycle that opened up caught by surprise. I was talking with broadening assignments section to determine when the best time to drop a packet was and I was told (before November) I was good to submit in March with no issues. It was a surprise to both Branch and myself was that ended up in the manning cycle which accelerated my packet submission. With that said, I did not finish the process but I was able to navigate the platform to see what it was about.
While I was filling out my preferences, I still had some questions that the HRC brief and other leaders could not answer. Some of the questions I had and the answers I found.
There were somewhere between 30-50 assignments listed but each one only listed one position available. There were more people in my MOS than assignments available. What happens when the slots run out? Or was this a system or personnel error?
Does a receiving unit have any input in the person they want to receive like the AIM system? We looked into this for another Soldier and branch told them the unit does not have any influence on the selection.
If there are 10 people who prefer this assignment, who, or what determines the OML and overall selection for the assignment?

Army Readiness Requirements
Assignment eligibility (ASI, SQI, Security Clearance, etc.)
EFMP/MACP (Manually Executed by Assignment Managers)
Soldier Preference
NCOs completing priority assignments (Drill Sergeant, DA Selected Recruiter,
etc.)
It is important to note that HRC Talent Managers DO NOT have the ability to
influence the slating algorithm nor are they allowed to alter the projected
assignment." CMF 68 Branch

SFC (Join to see) interesting.... I'll be in my window when I drop my retirement packet. I wonder if it will help speed that process as well, or if the phenomenon is unique to assignments only (I suppose that would make more sense)...

Not sure of the ASK-EM system, but if it’s like the Officer AIM 2.0 market then I think it’s a step in the right direction. It allows Soldiers (NCO, Warrant, and Officer - Junior enlisted are still subjugated to the G1 process of their division.) to see what is available for their MOS and compete for those positions. Instead of a assignment manager filling foxholes regardless of that Soldiers talents.
