Having recently transitioned back to the civilian life and currently in a position to assist others with their transition, I would like to hear from those that have also transitioned. If you could write a letter to yourself, knowing what you know now, what would say? What would you change about how you planned and executed your transition?

There will be times when you don't celebrate victory and you lament loss. Sometimes you just exist for the whims of the world.

Finish school before you leave the military. It makes the transition 10x easier.

Nice thought but depending on branch and MOS that can be next to impossible to do. Completing a full semester could even be difficult.

While very true, hard work and determination can go a long way. Online classes help a lot as well. Doing it all in school is close to impossible with some career fields.

I had the privilege of going to school and completing it before leaving. I was too young and dumb to take the opportunity. On my last year, I did full time school while working 12-16 hour shifts. Got As and Bs. It's very possible.

It is easier today for sure. When I was in, the internet didn't exist (early 80's) and there was no GI Bill money to speak of. It was all in brick and mortar class room, possibly some correspondence classes but very hard with the constant deployments and PCS's.
