On the officer side it is different then the enlisted side. Maximum TIS and Max Commission time is two different things. Long in US Military Code Title 10, chap 36.
The years of service is different for CPTs, MAJs, and so on. An example: a LTC can remain on active duty till 28 years of Commission Service, then they must retire. How can a LTC have so many years, one example is a prior Warrant Officer. Captains are limited to 22 years or passed over twice. Make sure you read all the additional paragraphs that fall into the category that relates to you and your next rank. Make sure you see it in writing, many individuals think they know what the rules says because they stop at the first paragraph.
