House conservatives blocked a Republican bill to avoid a government shutdown, dealing House Speaker Kevin McCarthy another defeat with the clock ticking toward the midnight deadline on Saturday when federal agencies run out of money.
The failure is the latest display of the dysfunction that has engulfed Congress in the days and weeks leading up to an increasingly inevitable government shutdown. House Republicans have been mired in internal battles over spending and political tactics that have put them at odds with Democrats and most Republicans in the Senate who are pursuing a bipartisan solution.
The lack of unity has frustrated rank-and-file House Republicans like Steve Womack, R-Ark.. "This is what we are supposed to do as a governing majority: we are supposed to lead," he said.

Why can’t the government have a transparent budget like most families? The government finances are being run like a crack addict runs his finances. Friday evening there is a large cash withdrawal with the ATM card and on to a drug binge. As cash runs out, the addict is back to the ATM. This activity continues through the weekend with the addict checking balances each cash withdrawal. The addict doesn’t realize balances aren’t totaled over the weekend. Monday after noon he wakes up and finds out he is severely overdrawn and the bank has used his credit card to cover the over draft and now his credit card is almost maxed out. This is a s simple insanity and needs to end. The value of the dollar has dropped 16% crushing low income and middle income families. I sure hope people don’t believe fiscal responsibility is a radical concept.
