They don't make em like they used to...

Ran into a Marine Master Sergeant with an attitude. He had already been picked up for MGySgt. We were having a big regimental inspection at Camp Foster on Okinawa. One of the officers decided that the Staff NCOs were to form their own platoon for the inspection. Everyone was complaining. "My job is to be standing with my men, not separated from them!" was the common bitch. There we were standing in the grass in the early morning during a dress rehearsal. I was standing in the second row just a few men down from the MSgt. This Captain went through his normal routine and then started down the first row. The first man was our MSgt. The captain looked him over and then said, Msgt, your shoes could use more polishing." The MSgt looked the captain straight in the eyes and said, "So fucking what!" The Captain did an about face and left. We were all sent back to our perspective platoons to stand the inspection with our men. The MSgt went back to his office.
