As far as interventions the first would have been for him to seek help. That should have been followed with any Cognitive Therapy or Person Centered approach.

PV2 Bengie Gonzalz LMHC I would be more proactive. Rather than wait perhaps once it was known that someone has filed for divorce they should automatically be referred to a counselor/EAP given the heightened emotions involved.

I was under the impression that most states will do a mediation before the divorce is finalize. If the mediator recommends MH before the divorce this could fix a lot of this problems. Some of the guys coming out of the service and some that still in don't want to be label with PTSD. Base on the current conditions I don't blame them. But that's another discussion.

Really tragic turn of events. I would bet that those closest to Parker would have never guessed he would have been capable of murdering his children. The divorce if anything could have been a warning sign that something was going on and a possible chance to seek out some mental health counseling.

SPC David S., with divorce being so common we often disregard how emotionally devastating a bad marriage AND its subsequent divorce AND child custody issues can become. Too many murder-suicides speak to that...
