I understand that the Chauchat was made worse than it already was for the French because when they made them in 30.06 for the AEF, they fouled up some spec that caused guaranteed jams. The Marines were especially pissed because they took away their excellent Lewis guns and replaced them with that piece of crap.

There is a Chinese-made reproduction of the knife, and it is reasonably priced and a pretty good copy. The sheath isn't great, but the knife itself is pretty good, with brass grip and the proper U.S.1918 marking. Mine came with a stainless steel blade and pommel. Not 100% accurate, but a decent working knife, and under $20, IIRC. I found it on line.
