WASHINGTON — As tensions between the West and Russia simmer, a Russian attack plane engaged in “provocative” acts Saturday towards the destroyer USS Donald Cook in international waters, the Pentagon announced Monday.
Over the course of about 90 minutes, a Russian SU-24 fighter jet made 12 “close-range, low-altitude” passes near the Cook while the ship was in international waters in the western Black Sea near Romania, Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren told reporters.
U.S. Navy official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Stars and Stripes that at one point the jet came within 1,000 yards of the vessel at an altitude of only 500 feet.

Many, MANY times while I was at Cherry Point, MCAS, we'd get an alert that the Russians were in or near our airspace, and a unit would be up, escorting them out of the area.
Nothing new, its just more visible now as the military is apparently more 'transparent' about such things than they were.

This is as old as stale bread, I'm an Old TACINTEL Man we used to do this all the time. Order of Battle what does the other guy have and how will he probably use it. Best way to ge the information is Tease him, Harass him, Buzz him or get him to buzz you. Did it with the Russians forever and did it with the Iranians. Once in a blue moon the Press Reports on it but for the most part no one ever hears about it.

They have being flying near Alaska for a long time, now, they are flying by our ships. Thinking that Russia is our friend my not be too smart. Same with China. I think that we need to review our foreign policy.
