Top Christian College Rejects Texas Law Allowing Guns On Campus

How do feel about SMU deciding to not go with the new open carry law in Texas, beginning January 1st 2016? Having one of my granddaughters in college at UT, I think it's a good decision. What's to say, a college student suspects another student of acting suspiciously, and instead of involving the police, decides to go Rambo on the guy. If the other student is carrying , there could be a gun fight on campus, and some innocent students could get hurt or killed. Or, one of the students is cleaning his or her weapon, and it fires accidentally. I don't want that around my granddaughter. If a student is carrying concealed, with a permit, not much can be done about that unless the school forbids that too. Americans have a right to own, and carry a licensed permitted gun. But they should also have some common sense when carrying concealed or open.


Southern Methodist University, one of the top private colleges in Texas, on Friday said it would opt out of state law due to go into effect next year that allows people with licenses for concealed handguns to bring them on campus.
SMU students, faculty and staff by a wide margin said they wanted to keep the campus in Dallas weapons free, University President R. Gerald Turner said in a statement, which heavily weighed into his and the Board of Trustees' decision not to participate in the so-called "campus carry" law.

"The results were overwhelmingly in favor of SMU remaining weapons free when the law goes into effect."
