They're not YOUR rules and regulations, they're the MARINE CORPS rules and regulations. They can change whatever they see fit. It says FEMALES not any particular ethniticity. Be aware that not everyone can rise in the morning, wet up a comb or hand or take a dab of gel and slick their hair back. I see dudes with 5-6 inches of hair glued to their skulls but hey, it looks within regs so shrug. I'd much rather see this in a presentable manner than hair weaves and making sure people with this type of hair (newsflash it's isn't just black women) can have a different option than dumping chemicals in their hair to straighten it. Just like the no-shave chit was the realm of black males, that no longer rings true, all walks partake in it. It's how you want to and who you want to focus on that makes this an issue. Keep it in mind when you're getting that horseshoe cut at the base barber or shaving your dome.

The Navy had a problem with braids all the way back to 1986 when I joined, even though braiding your hair would keep it up and clean looking better than the two pins we were limited to. I got pulled into an office to take down my hair and prove I wasn't using braids, apparently because it was too well kept looking for someone's tastes. Was one of the most annoying non-issues that the service harped on.
