I had a major in Afghanistan that told another officer that we National Guard personnel did not deserve any type of awards because we (the National Guard personnel ) "do a G Damn thing ". This was the man that we were protecting. This officer said that the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan were same.Unfortunately I have found that this type of mentality seems to be a major issue for active duty/regular army personnel when they have to work with national guard and/or reserve personnel. I also have seen officers get put in for a Bronze Star for leaving the compound one time and personnel that left the gate all the time get put in for a lesser award if any. It seemed that the officers were just getting their "tickets " punched.

I have experienced this same perception throughout many years in the reserve components (ARNG/USAR). We are entitled to the same awards and recognitions as our active brethren. However, I still question "blanket" awarding and the need for these new devices.

Not that it matters, but I really, really, really hate the R concept. You were not there, you dont rate the award. At no point were in you danger of anything more than a paper cut. This is being a REMF of steroids.
