I am adamant about the lack of these in the last two generations, for sure. With rare exception in some American families, this seems to have been lost somewhere in the Society of the 1970s. The multitude of social ills it has led to is plainly evident everywhere today.

Manners? How quaint. Manners can only be taught by parents. Today's "parents" prefer to be friends to their children. And their children's friends too.

C'mon, Jack? I don't know who's older, but you and I were raised by dozens of parents!!! Some were called neighbors, some were aunts and uncles, so were just Joes in that cafe or the corner grocery. I remember a janitor in my 1870 schoolhouse in 1959, who took a very participatory role in my upbringing. So did the teacher and the principal, one Miss Ollie Clattebuck. My Dad got what was left!!!
