MAJ (Join to see), I'm waiting to see it too. I'm also glad the Coast Guard is receiving more acknowledgement for it's important missions it performs.

A good friend of mine served in the Coast Guard in WWII on a higgins boat in the pacific SGT (Join to see). I concur with your assessment and thanks for honoring the USCG.
1. We’re humble. [generally very true]
2. And resourceful. [legendary]
3. People love us. [all except for smugglers I expect]
4. On the water? No warrant required.
5. Our patrols don’t last hours, they last months. [similar to teh Us Navy but the SS Minnow of Gilligan's Island]
6. Disaster response is our bread and butter. [thank God they are well trained, resourceful and available in time of need.

SGT (Join to see) - they "belong" to DHS usually. Near Martinsburg, WV there is Coast Guard drive which leads to a DHS facility miles from any water.
In time of war the USCG does sub to DoD in some cases - Desert Storm was one such instance I believe.

LTC Stephen F., I'm very impressed with their war records and the many dangerous tasks they perform. In watching the documentary "Deadliest Catch", the CG risked many of their lives rescuing fisherman in the Bering Sea. The waves were sometimes 30-40 feet, and the winds 30-50 MPH. A rescue member would take a flat board onto the ship hanging from a cable, and ride back up with the injured person. That takes guts and much training.

This is a true fact my brothers and sisters. That being focused to our military friends in the other branches. I'm sure anyone reading this in the CG already knows our limitations. They are all due to minimal funding! The only ones that get an open check book are the air sta and spec op teams. You all know who we are! Drive on my "under funded" friends! It hasn't changed in YEARS!! Hope a politician reads this!!

Sergeant. You are correct in saying it is a crock which it is but this is been going on for many many years unfortunately it's sad when you get to the end of the fiscal year and there has been no money allocated or left because you have ran out of money five months prior. Been there done that and you have to rob Peter to pay Paul in order to get funded for anything other than your normal ops

I do not understand why they are not part of the DOD. They defend our shores, seas and oceans, and have been included as support for the military.
