Thanks for sharing this song from N+Billy Ray Cyrus SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. I prefer blues, rock and jazz to country and western but have learned to appreciate a wide variety of music. Song lyrics are important and like good poetry they can inspire us and move us in ways we are sometimes not prepared to face in ourselves.

For my generation, let the record reflect that, for too many, "Left a boy, came back a man" meant "but was treated as a boy when he came back". You were drafted at 18, enlisted to have some choice of your MOS, got some promotions, wound up in charge of 24 people and several million dollars worth of equipment in a combat zone. DEROS, ETS, you are now a deeply tanned 21 and nobody takes you seriously as a trained and seasoned leader.
That was for us white boys. The Blacks had it a lot worse.
