This is essentially what the VA Honolulu has done in association with Tripler AMC. When I insisted to the VA doctor that my neck lump needed to be needle biopsied he picked up the phone and spoke with an Army ENT surgeon. I walked approximately half a block down the hill, had my diagnosis confirmed, and I was in surgery a few days later. The Army surgeons were fantastic as was the radiation oncologist. The chemo staff were very supportive and I was treated exceptionally well as a fellow servicemember. This arrangement would be a vast improvement on the current situation.

It was a good start to have USACE take over the VA construction (speaking from personal experience). They already build military hospitals and clinics. Next betterment would have active duty commanders (medical and medical service) take over VA hospitals. Hopefully that would bring accountability into the VA. Combining medical records systems might help transitioning SM from active duty into the VA.
