Was the attack on decorated former Marine Christopher Marquez Washington DC McDonald's, a hate crime?
He was robbed by at least four people at a Washington D.C. McDonald's last week, according to local police. Christopher Marquez, 30, an Iraq War vet, told the Washington Post he was eating in a back corner of the restaurant when a group of teens and young men approached his table.
"They saw me and crowded around ... and they started asking me if I believed black lives matter,” Marquez told the paper. “I was ignoring them, then they started calling me racist."
I think that this was an opportunist attack by black thugs against a disabled veteran. Black Lives Matter has been shouted by people who believe it in some cases too many cases of people who want to lord it over whoever stands in their path.

When questions like this arise (Is this a hate crime?)- I always reverse the situation and ask the same question. There in lies the answer imo. Overall, it's a sad and tragic event about a man who was a target by 4 unruly young men. What gets me is that I read yesterday (possibly another report on the same incident) that at least one of the individuals had been identified in previous incidents at the same location. Also - at what point do employees and/or the manager intervene and ask the unruly patron (assuming they had paid for meals/drink) to depart the premises before they call the local authorities before things escalated to an act of violence?

I expect the employees in that McDonald's are cowed by the gangs of young men who tend to roam around in that part of D.C. I don't know if they are gang-affiliated or not. In any event I hope they are caught and made are used as public example - hopefully combination of jail and relevant community service.

MAJ (Join to see) most establishments have a posting that states (to the effect) "We reserve the right to refuse service" I agree that management should have stepped in and asked them not to come back. Although looking at it from the other side, unless the manager is also a minority, they may well have come back with the rhetoric that they were told to leave out of bias rather than because they were acting like asshats and causing a disturbance.

To bad Washington DC doesn't allow conceal carry. if that happened in Kentucky or Texas those young men might be dead instead a disabled veteran takes a beating because he's outnumbered four to one.
