SSG,
What role did the United Confederate Veterans Association play in the promulgation and perpetuation of "Jim Crow?" I not familiar with UCVA but I am willing to venture that it was another bastion of Southern institutional racism. In addition, I am also speculating that the members of UCVA obstructed the implementation of Reconstruction as private citizens and later supported the KKK in terrorizing the African American Community. The unpalatable truths of slavery that believers in "The Lost Cause" myth betrays how morally obtuse their interpretation of the causes of the Civil War is. Frederick Douglas would have been lynched if he had resided in the deep South for his radical condemnation of the post-Confederate mentality. I also suppose that Robert E. Lee was idolatrized by the UCVA although his warmongering strategy led to thousands of additional Confederate and Union dead by his refusal to surrender after his defeat at Gettysburg. Lee's determination to preserve the Confederacy completely ignored how brutal and onerous slavery was and tarnishes his brilliant military proficiency. Finally, the conflict between Southern patriotism and Southern racism has been not been definitively resolved both historically and morally and will remain firmly embedded in the tapestry of national memory.
