The president was handed a real sh!t sandwich by the Bushies.
It is hard to tell in the moment how he is doing/has done. He did direct that OBL be found and killed. And he has not been shy about killing people, including American citizens aiding our enemies.

I agree with him. What we have in some corners of congress are hawks who look for any chance to flex on another country as a means to show how "mighty" we really are. Those countries are normally some third world shithole, who man vs. man wouldn't last two days against a full onslaught. Note no one is advocating fighting Russia or China directly. The Military is a valid deterrent but should ONLY be used if there is a clear and concise threat to the US and her interests. NOT as a FIRST strike option. Obama for all his faults I think he gets the idea of NOT deploying the troops everywhere, but to even counter that, he sends the troops everywhere. I don't mind doing the duty when the call is made, but the call should be clear and easily articulated to the lowest level why. It hasn't happened Since we went to Iraq. I say since of these hawks want to deploy and fight everyone and their mother, take their military age kids, conscript them to combat arms, and deploy them. Let them know how it feels, let them see the effects PERSONALLY, and then ask "was deploying them as a first strike option worth it"? "How is your child coping with the VA today"? Make them look their kid in the eyes, and see there's nothing there but a shell, and I guarantee we'll have a massive number of folks not against war, but against using troops as a first strike or just for the hell of it.

The newly-released poll from Gallup notes that the President’s job approval numbers are up a full 5 points since January and 3 percent from this time a year ago.
From a historical perspective, the new ranking puts Obama in the middle of the pack when compared to other modern Presidents at this stage of their terms in office. By comparison, George W. Bush had an abysmal 32 percent approval rating in March of 2008. Ouch!
But Bill Clinton stood at an enviable 63 percent approval in March 2000, and Ronald Regan was only slightly ahead of President Obama at 52 percent.
This seems like a good time to take a look at some of President Obama’s major accomplishments:
The Economy: Businesses have added 13.7 million new jobs over a 69-month streak of job growth
Health Care Reform: The rate of the uninsured in America dropped below 10 percent for the first time ever. In all, 17.6 million people have gained coverage as the Affordable Care Act has taken effect
Improved Relations With Cuba
The Iran Nuclear Deal
The legalization of same-sex marriage
Leadership on the critical issue of climate change
Keep in mind that all of these things have been accomplished with virtually no help from a recalcitrant GOP-controlled Congress, which has sought to set up road blocks each and every step of the way. The Republicans may like to whine about what has been done over the past eight years, but have they once sought to improve anything other than their own political fortunes?
In light of what this President has faced as he has tried to help all Americans, his accomplishments are all the more impressive.
