Navy women issued iconic 'Dixie cup' for first time

These are unpresedented changes to the women's Navy uniform which enforces the idea of a gender neutral Navy. Women at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Illinois, were fitted for "Dixie cups" at uniform issue on Monday. Women at boot camp will begin receiving restyled blue crackerjacks (dress blues). Also approved is a women’s version of the “choker” dress white uniform.
“We are ending the way we segregate by uniforms,” “Rather than highlighting differences in our ranks, we will incorporate everyone as full participants.“ "In the Navy and in the Marine Corps, we are moving towards uniforms that don't divide us as male or female, but rather unite us as sailors or Marines.” said Navy Secretary Ray Mabus who has made gender equality an issue he personally addresses.

Didn't have a problem with it in those Racy WWII Recruiting Posters, Don't have a problem with it now. Crackerjacks are made to wear with a Dixie Cup.

Should have done this long ago, but not for Mabus' rainbows-and-unicorns reasons. No, it should have been done long ago because it's a proud Navy tradition, and women deserve to take part in it, feel connected to it.
