Thanks COL Mikel J. Burroughs for letting us know that the U.S. Marine Veteran Matt Mainzer was given chance to pursue academic dreams and then continues to give back by partnering with the Veterans Education Challenge (VEC), an organization dedicated to sending U.S. military vets to college.

I like it! I wish the other services pushed college education as much as the Air Force but I understand that not every career field is the same while some spend more time deployed and away from reliable comms than others.

MSgt (Join to see), I concur with your statement. I have worked with USAF, USN, and USMC during my career, and the Air Force pushed education more than everyone. That is not to say that the other branches did not make education a priority; rather, the Air Force seemed to endorse it more than other branches. It seems ingrained in the AF nature.

Excellent story! I believe full-ride scholarships for people returning to school is the best option and the rigors of the school itself means that no one bilks the system!
