Oh how rank has its privileges and responsibilities. The higher up you go, the more likely someone is watching and reporting on what and how you do. And given today's overly regulated environment is it any wonder most GOs are so scripted and mechanical? However, in these cases, I think these generals have been highly critical of current defense strategy (or lack there of) and this might be an attempt to discredit them into silence. What do you think?

In Today's over regulated environment, it's almost impossible to NOT violate some obscure rule, policy, or regulation.

This is where I came down as well. I think they tripped the "perceptual" side more than anything. How many times have we accidentally broken a reg just because we didn't realize it?

No idea re their take on current defense strategy. However, I find that senior leaders often have assistants who take care of coordinating travel, etc. (it's one of the few things that others can take out of a senior leader's ruck), and sometimes I wonder how much is individual decision vice an error to which another may have contributed.
