Freedom of navigation applied to international waters and in some cases (the right of innocent passage) to territorial waters.

A port visit is solely within the purview of the nation who's port it is.

Any country can block anyone from entering their ports. It's funny though because they didn't seem to block the 7th Fleet Flagship and is currently in port Hong Kong. Probably didn't want to piss off our Admiral.

When I was on the USS George Washington we got Hong Kong cancelled quite a few times. I guess they didn't want us to spend our money there lol

CPO (Join to see) - Subic Bay Rocks except when I was there 15 Jun 1991. That was a bad time. My Bet would be Phuket now that is another wild town.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - I don't know if a CSG would/could pull into Phuket. Maybe Pattaya, but on the GW we never pulled into Phuket.

CPO (Join to see) - Forgot, yeah it isn't that big that would probably have to anchor our at Pattaya. My Week in Phuket, I'll never forget. The Buddhist Temple was something else and buying cheap Semi Precious Stones in Back Alleys is kinda fun too.

PO1 William "Chip" Nagel - Yeah Thailand is something special. Pattaya was kind of a dump, but at least I got to go to pet a tiger, feed a baby tiger, play with a little monkey, ride an elephant, went to see the "Sanctuary of Truth", etc. I had a great time there.

Nope. Let a Chinese carrier pull into a USA territory without our approval. Too bad, HK used to be a super Liberty port.

MCPO Roger Collins - Master Chief; I think that you missed my point that all that "America is defending the freedom of navigation." stuff is REALLY "America is defending the freedom of navigation FOR AMERICANS." stuff.

COL Ted Mc - I missed nothing. What you stated is consistent as to the purpose of the Navy.

MCPO Roger Collins - Master Chief; Of course that's the REAL purpose - to ensure that "WE" can go wherever "WE" want to go and that "THEY" can only go where "WE" let "THEM" go.

But you can't sell that anywhere nearly as easily as you can sell "WE are DEFENDING 'Freedom of Navigation' and THEY want to block it.".
