Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen Closest I've been was in My Rack Which wasn't Far from the Forward SM-2 Launcher on USS Arkansas CGN-41. I Knew Better than Touch the "Overhead" after a Launch. I've Also Learned it is Best to Take Down the Safety Lines before Missile Quarters and Launch. That Thin Steel wrapped in Plastic Doesn't Hold Up that Well.

Man overboard anyone? Perhaps they were waiting to perform that training when someone was blown off the ship as well as live action medical training when someone is injured on deck from the blasts.
