I'm a pretty "religious" person, and I find it difficult to stay away from the "religion" discussions...though I probably should, and it may improve RP overall if we all agreed to "table" it for a while. Still-this one hits home, so I'll bite.

Listen-There's no part of the Christian doctrine that supports the idea of kicking a man once he's down. Christ's message was one of abandoning the world's vanities the better to love God and one another, while avoiding the pitfalls of immorality. Take the issues of curing poverty, protecting the environment, decrying needless violence, and defending the oppressed...and you pretty much spell out the Gospels.

But...

The "Left" likes to throw in a few things no practicing, doctrinal Christian can condone, accept, support, and promote...mainly, so-called "alternative" life choices involving sexuality and family. All of that's further complicated by the equally counter-doctrinal positions the Church has taken for decades on a plethora of "lesser" issues of no less ecumenical significance...such as divorce, leadership in the congregation, heterosexual intimacy, etc. (translate-Hypocrisy)

All of which basically means that a whole bunch of hard-working, lower-middle class, largely reasonable Americans side with "big Capitalism"-because they value being able to earn (then contribute from) a living...as opposed to being "guaranteed" one in exchange for their principles. We...because I am one...then side with the "Out of my cold, dead, hands" bunch...mostly because we feel the relative "freedom" to possess arms is a "speed bump" for imposed secular collectivism...and reject some of the more "extreme" notions of environmentalism because if we are destined to be shoved out of politics, business and legislation...the least we can hold on to is the ability to shoot a deer and cook it over an open fire while residing in our cave.
