Privatization would be a step toward complete loss of our benefits. Can anyone recall a time the government took away a benefit (for anyone) and then gave it back?

I think it should be investigated. Its very possible the VA could be a large insurance program as well as benefits provider (ie chap31/33/35, loans etc). My biggest fear woukd be it becomes an HMO. This would be unacceptable as it should be self-referral like a PPO. Another concern is certain aspects of privacy. Ine good thing about the VAMC is mental health is protected from the civilian sector. One terrible issue with VMAS is they've blessed themselves to seize power of attorney (and gun "rights") from patients without adjudication which is impossible in the civilian sector, and should be unacceptable to veterans.
