Partially true. Yes, this is real, and an old story. However, he was removed from the ceremony because the commanding officer and him didn't get along and the commander barred him from attending. It has nothing to do with religion. Normally Breitbart is a decent source of news, but this story will make me question them more seriously now. It's a complete twisting of reality.

On the face of it, I couldn't agree more; all too often, the "truth" gets lost in perception. However, I feel that regardless of the CO's position on this individual, the ceremony was not the time and place. We issue orders on the assumption they will be followed, and with serving personnel, there are consequences determined by regulations when lawful orders are refused. This individual was not a serving member; at best, a Reservist, and if the information from last spring is correct, a retired member...so essentially a civilian. If the CO didn't want him there, then he should not have been permitted on base-I believe there are very effective ways to enforce that. Having a pair of NCOs forcibly remove the man while he is performing a patriotic ceremony for the benefit of an honorable retirement seems inappropriate. It sends the message that in addition to failing to delegate through his base security personnel to keep listed persons of base...the CO failed to ensure those carrying out his orders possessed the presence of mind to act with tact. All that was accomplished was the denigration of both men's reputations at the expense of hard earned retirement ceremony.

Thanks for sharing that... I was wondering what "the rest of the story" was. I'm a sitting commander and even if someone spoke at an event who I despised, if the retiree wanted them, I wouldn't dishonor their request...

The new part of this is the Federal Law Suit.
"On Sunday, First Liberty sent a letter to the U.S. Air Force and the commander of Travis Air Force Base, demanding that the Air Force: (1) issue a formal written apology to Rodriguez, (2) an admission that Air Force personnel violated his civil rights, (3) a written promise that Rodriguez is welcome to return to the base and engage in legally protected speech, and (4) “Punitive action against those determined to be responsible for violating Mr. Rodriguez’s constitutional rights.”

The letter also lists the various federal laws and provisions of the U.S. Constitution that the airmen — acting as government agents — allegedly violated by their actions, including the First Amendment, Fourth Amendment, and Fifth Amendment of the Bill of Rights. First Liberty Institute is giving the Air Force seven days to meet these demands and apologize to Rodriguez, or these lawyers will file a federal civil-rights lawsuit in U.S. district court to seek justice for this 33-year Air Force veteran."
