Even though Beryl weakened over Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula on Friday, it is forecast to regain strength over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico this weekend before striking Texas early next week. AccuWeather meteorologists continue to warn of the potential for widespread flooding rainfall and the likelihood of damaging winds, storm surge flooding and perhaps tornadoes as the system moves inland over Texas.

Its a good thing it passed over Yucatan, if it had remained over the Gulf longer it would probably have re-strengthened. As of now they only expect it to be a Cat 1.

SGT Kevin Hughes - Better than strengthening into a Cat 5 in the gulf, I spent 8 years in Louisiana and have seen a few myself, including a Cat 5.

MSgt Dale Johnson - Yeah, I was in Hawaii when Iniki hit, Charlotte with Hugo, and Wilmington with Florence ...wasn't criticizing you...just pointing out that a Cat 1 is still a bitch. And poor Louisiana and Alabama seem to have a target painted on their backs for Hurricanes.

It is going to be one heck of a season. Hurricanes that last weeks, Tornadoes that stay on the ground for hours, and heat that drops people like flies. I swear if donuts start to go bad the same day they are made....I am outta here.
