IMO, the only law needed for a person to carry, whether "open carry" or "concealed carry" is the 2nd amendment. Why? The law will not affect whether criminals will or will not carry and it would only restrict law-abiding citizens. It does not affect whether a person will use a gun to commit a crime. It's already against the law to murder a person and this doesn't deter those committed to do so. Requiring citizens to get permits only accomplishes allowing government having the ability to raise revenue and to maintain a database of gun owners. A database of gun owners allows the ability to lay the groundwork for gun confiscation.

"When you take a man's gun, you can take anything from him".

Adding to the database is why I postponed taking the concealed carry class for so long.
Then I realized that you don't have to register the pistol, I am registered. I'm already registered as a gun owner because I have legally purchased all my firearms.

MAJ Charles Blake - "Registration" is a misnomer. Depending on the State, there may or may not be a Registration process for firearms. There is no Federal Registration on Firearms. The ATF-4473 is NOT a Registration form. It is a Transaction Record for an over the counter sale. We do a NICS check based on that. A successful NICS check is purged from the system 24 hours later.

The form is retained by the FFL Dealer until it goes out of business.

Just a quick note to clarify....The Senate overturned a veto by the governor and now Missouri is basically "Constitutional Carry" state much like Vermont and a few others. This is a very good thing because honest citizens, particularly the old or disabled, can now protect themselves so long as there is nothing in their past to prevent them from legally owning or using a firearm. Now, while some purists will say we already have those rights because of the 2nd Amendment, the fact remains there are some states and counties which have ordnances which can land the normally law-abiding in legal jeopardy.

Forgot to add one thing. The only down side of this new law (as I read it) is that if you travel to other states that do require a CCDW permit, you can not carry. However there are states that offer "Out of State" permits that "travel".
