Interesting. My dad was in the 339th Infantry (Polar Bears) in Italy, WWII. He was also in the Polar Bear Association of WWII and served as a past President. It was in their bylaws to “disband” when the numbers got down to a set level (occurred in 2008). The Polar Bears of WWII set up a monument in 1992 dedicated to the 85th ID (338th and 339th) which is located in Camp Shelby, MS. Dad passed away Sep 29, ‘17 (age 92).

My dad was a 1LT Fwd Observer in 2nd ID during the Korean War. He was re-assigned to 2nd ID in 1962-63. I got assigned to B Co, 2 nd Bn, 2nd ID at Camp Casey in ‘74-75.
