I think it's wrong and another means to save a bad cop when you can quit and get out of any criminal wrongdoing. I think it's doubly wrong that there is now a law there that prevents releasing of the video without a court order. That would make it damn near impossible being the courts and the DA's are often tied to the police. So both of these cops can get jobs elsewhere as if nothing ever happened, and the city will end up paying him. Makes no sense.

There in lies the rub, how do you keep a bad cop from getting hired? As the article says short of a conviction there is not much that can be done. Then again social media does wonders for getting people names out there though that can be a two edge sword.

The only effective way is to have their license suspended or revoked, but the laws vary so much from state to state. In Texas, any conviction will result in a license suspension, and a quick look at the NC statute indicates that it may be like that--but you can go to California and only a felony will get your license pulled.

PO1 John Crafton - I agree that it should be handled by the various states, it is a state, not a federal issue.
