One of the many reasons for the continuing of the Revolutionary War. Phase Two was called the War of 1812. England had not really thought we were independent until after this war. When the Civil war happened, that was one reason the British also sided with the South, hopes of regaining some influence in the "Colonies."

In this Marines opinion there is a lot of difference between then and now. Especially in the area's of training, medical technology, weapons and most of all people. If you look back in time from the beginning to now, we as a Nation has fought in every Country or continent. We have been in war's and conflicts in almost every decade. Today's military men and women serve our Country because they want to. Furthermore you can't be biased on who, what, when, where and why when doing a comparison of the past to the present. Remember all of the Revolutionary men and women who fought for their own freedom came from Europe and England. Today's military comes from a wide variety and selection of Country's. Now as for the awards given to our men and women in today's Armed Forces, yes it still is appropriate to award them contingent on their actions given. In case of the Purple Heart, this is an appropriate award to be given to someone who has been wounded in action foreign or domestic. Why I said domestic,
because I had a good friend of mine who worked with me in the County of San Diego. I couldn't believe when he told me that he requested to go back on Active duty, not because he was in his early 50's, but because he had a medical background with type of injuries our military people were getting at Iraq and Afghanistan. He was killed in action by a Major in the U.S. Army who wasn't from this Country to begin with. Those that were killed or wounded at Fort Hood, Texas, their families received the Purple Heart. So, yes it is very important that we recognize those that are put in Harm's Way by our so-called elected officials who in my opinion don't have a clue or reason to not recognize our military men and women who are defending our Nation 24/7.

Totally agree CWO3 (Join to see) that Ft. Hood could never be considered "work place violence" as our esteemed leader wanted to do. When you are shot and wounded or killed by a TERRORIST you are a victim or the War on Terrorism, NOT work place violence. If there were Military Members in PULSE in Orlando who were wounded or killed, they would also deserve the Purple Heart IMHO.
