2004 ALCS Gm 4: David Ortiz's walk-off two run homer

Great moments in Sports History. David Ortiz' walkoff 2-run homer at Fenway in the bottom of the 12th of game 4 against the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS. The Yankees held a 3 games to 0 advantage against the Red Sox, and this game was do or die. While Ortiz provided the fireworks in the 12th, arguably the most important moment of the game was earlier in the bottom of the 9th. The RedSox had the lead 3-2 until the 6th inning when they allowed the Yankees to score 2 and take the lead 4-3. The Yankees then closed down the RedSox bats through the 8th, and brought in Mariano Rivera for the bottom of the 9th. Rivera walked Kevin Millar on 5 pitches, forcing RedSox Manager Tito Francona to send in pinch-runner Dave "SpeedWheels" Roberts to replace the aging Kevin "No Wheels" Millar. Bill Miller came up to bat, and waited 3 times while Rivera checked Roberts back to 1st base. On the 1st pitch, Roberts stole 2nd base easily and set Miller up for the tying run. On the 2nd pitch, Miller showed bunt and took a strike over the middle of the plate. This would prove partially fatal for the Yankees as they would now expect Miller to bunt Roberts to 3rd on the next pitch. On the 3rd pitch to Miller drove a single up the middle, scoring Roberts from 2nd easily while the throw was cutoff by Rivera. The rest is history!
