Why did you join the service? Someone asked this question a few days ago and I was stumped. I responded academically: It was neither a wholly rational nor emotional decision. I had some good reasons and it "felt" right, but that seemed to avoid the question. Then my granddaughter asked me to visit her school to help them celebrate Veterans Day. I planned what I was going to say, but the morning of the even, while I took a shower, I had an epiphany. I knew why I had volunteered to enlist in the Army and I was going to tell the children. I grabbed two books and set off to school. My wife recorded the event so I could share it here on RallyPoint. BTW, I also invited a comrade from the VFW and the children enjoyed her presentation as well.

I was asked that question long ago, I said to get out of the house, and do something that was beneficial to me and to serve my country.
