This is very interesting. One of the most difficult things in riding a mob is keeping them under control so they don't turn on you. Trump seems to realize this and he is now reigning them in. He will likely turn that around if he feels he needs to.

They were violent - in their emotion. In their will. In their conviction. It was shown that paid protestors were bussed in to PEOTUS rallies - many the same that were bussed in to places like Ferguson and Baltimore - yet they had conviction enough to not be sucked into the violence.

If you read the actual quote, it's obvious Trump was being sarcastic, and was making fun of the media when he said it. CNN, blinded by its own partisanship, was oblivious to it.
"You people were vicious, violent, screaming, 'Where's the wall? We want the wall!' Screaming, 'Prison! Prison! Lock her up!' I mean you are going crazy. I mean, you were nasty and mean and vicious and you wanted to win, right?" Trump said Friday. "But now, you're mellow and you're cool and you're not nearly as vicious or violent, right? Because we won, right?"
