Interesting info on the different rounds. I had not realized that USMC and Army used different rounds.

From what I understand, the NATO rounds have a lower grain count... Would explain why we had more malfunctions with them.

SFC (Join to see) - The M855 and M855A1 are both NATO rounds and both weigh 62 grains. The major difference internally is the 855 produced 55,000 PSI in the pressure and the new round is closer to 62,000 PSI.

Sad enough some branches use different methods on how they receive ammo along with many other things they have different budgets. They have a different mission and sometimes they might need something different it makes sense.

On my 2010 deployment we were still using M855. Being NG, I had only fired M855A1 a handful of times at qualification after 2010 but didn't notice any differences in POA/POI. Performance wise I think the Mk 262 Mod 1 round should be adopted DOD wide for 5.56.
