53% of the land in my small county is owned by the government, state or federal. How do small areas support their growth and government (first responders and education) with half the property owned by land off limits? There is supposed to be a process for compensation for this, but the Federal government is over $20T in debt and about a$750B annual deficit, we are at the rear of the line.

If we don't get our debt under control, the tone deaf Federal gov't will be in the mood to trade land for debt owed and the Chinese and Japanese will be all for it. That is NOT what the people want. The politicians need to educate themselves, quit making stupid deals, quit importing refugees, and quit giving our wealth away to countries that hate us!
I trust that the draining of the swamp can begin with Trump but he definitely has his work cut out. Don't expect to see an instant turnaround. Things will get worse before they get better but they won't get better if we sit on our hands waiting for the corruption to fix itself.
We rrreally have to get our debt under control and that means eliminating wasteful spending. There's something definitely wrong with the picture when the top 1% controls 40% of the nation's wealth. These are the folks pulling the strings on the folks in Washington. We must reduce their influence and get rid of the loopholes they use to push the burden of expenses on the working class. Not saying we need socialism... We definitely don't want that but we need to level the playing field so that EVERYONE has an equal spot at the starting line and where they finish is up to how much they are willing to work and make good decisions.

Capt Jeff S. - The fly in the ointment is debt/deficit reduction means job loss and limited checks from our pockets to those sucking the teats of the government with little to no investment in the process.

The outgoing administration should make their pitch to the incoming as to why these last minute actions are beneficial to the national interest. If their actions are substantiated with real evidence, they should remain in effect. At face value, what they are doing right now just appears to be throwing spikes on the road before the new administration takes over. I truly wish they could prove me wrong, but they are not acting as if they will.
