Germany has experienced the fulls horrors that can happen when a far-right, racist, power-hungry leader takes office. Germany has experienced what can go wrong when hate speech is unchecked and allowed to flourish.
This is why modern day Germany is one of the strongest opponents of the far-right. Germany's anti-hate speech laws are the strongest in the world. Nazi paraphernalia and music are completely illegal. Racism, xenophobia, and misogyny are forcefully called out and challenged in German society.
The United States needs to learn the lessons that Germany has learned. The USA's soon to be President has called entire nationalities "rapists," has called for a ban of all immigrants of a certain faith, and has bragged about assaulting women. None of this would fly in Germany, because the Germans have learned from history what can happen when a racist takes political power.
In fact, the hate speech that Trump and supporters spewed would not fly in Germany either. The Germans have learned the consequences of letting violent hatred and racism go unchecked in society.
We need to learn from Germany how to be more forceful, more determined, and more strident in combating racism and hate, and how to shut up the far right permanently. We should have never let hate and xenophobia become our president, but now all we can do is learn how to fight back and resist.

You have expressed many points in your post. Some are on point, some are true and some goes down a road which could lead to a slippery slope.
My advice is to watch, see and observe for only time will tell what is and truely isn't.
The campaign is over and in spite of all of the rhetoric, we not must be blind in our approach, nor ignorant of history and keep not only an open mind, but a cautious approach for we are Americans first and foremost.

PV2 Tong Li - You should try reading sources from the opposite side of the ideological spectrum. I do. It keeps me from becoming inured to competing/opposing thoughts. It challenges me to examine my own beliefs and often ameliorates the errors in my thinking. Simply dismissing one as unworthy of your time and attention may be the source of prejudice.
