The VA is a typical government agency with typical government employees. They have a job and they can't be fired so they sit back on their ass collect a check and do nothing. I am not saying that all the VA employees have this mind set but if thier job is to take care of our veterans why do so many die unnecessarily under their care, why can't they get the help they need, why do we need advocates to get things done the right way and on time by the VA and finally, why do again not all VA employees are this way, but why do they have no pride in themselves or their job to do it right and take care of those who have given so much for this nation.

The pride may directly coorelate to their reputation in the press. As you state not all VA employees are bad, but the constant barrage will bring down the morale of even the best. As the morale and brand goes down the cost to attract talent goes up. Or don't pay them competitive salaries and you'll be left with the most extreme of patriots and individuals that just couldn't find work anywhere else.

CPT Mark Gonzalez - Its a collective reputation well earned. I am currently using VA Healthcare and drawing a disability pension. While I do run into good people there I also run into way too many going through the motions.
I will never forget or forgive what the VA put myself and my family through while waiting for them to approve my claims. It was the darkest point in my life, and I an not alone in this.
Many of my friends have this shared experience of have months of bills stacked up and empty refrigerators while our claims were sitting in purgatory.

Because if you don't give them bonuses you'll have even less doctors and even more issues. You have to pay for talent. They need sweeping legislation to drain the swamp, but getting new talent will not be cheap. These good doctors they need to attract are not working at MCDONALDs and in certain areas they are very well compensated. Also for profit businesses have a stake in putting the VA out of business and would love to as long as the rate is right. If the rate isn't right, good luck finding care except for emergencies.

All you have to do is check out what happened to the Bonham, Tx. VA once the Dallas VA gained control of Bonham's money in 1999. Bonham had an emergency room, hospital, nursing care, homeless dom, and one of the most successful drug and alcohol treatment programs in the country. Then Dallas, who had been trying for years to get control of Bonham's money succeeded. Get a real accounting and you'll see just how much money was stripped from Bonham to prop up one of the worst VA's in the country. Dallas screwed up a fine VA.
